COMPOSITION PROJECTS: My Mate George / Battle of the Somme

Haringey Music Education Hub is focussing on composition for the next few terms and various projects are already underway.  These two are designed to coincide with the centenary of World War One and especially The Battle of the Somme (1/7/1916 - 18/11/1916):

"My Mate George"

- a collaboration between The Vale Special School, Northumberland Park Community School, Haringey Young Musicians and various external partners.  This project involves the creation of a piece of musical theatre for singers, dancers, actors and instrumentalists.  It focusses on a soldier from Tottenham who lost his life in WW1.  As well as performances in Haringey and beyond, a small group will take this performance to Ypres, Belgium in July 2017 to be performed in local schools and in public.

"The Battle of the Somme"

- a silent film, with orchestral score to be performed in synch, written by composer Laura Rossi and to be screened/performed at Heartlands High School on Wednesday 22nd March 2017, in conjunction with Talkies Community Cinema and Haringey Young Musicians Symphony Orchestra.  LINKING IN WITH THIS EVENT: Haringey schools are invited to register for participation in a composition project between January 2017 and July 2017.  A skeleton suggested scheme of work is being prepared by Rosie Shakespear, Head of Music at Heartlands High School.  The brief is deliberately open, but we hope all schools will include the WW1 film clips as a stimulus and endeavour to bring students to see the film on 22nd March.  Please use this forum to ask questions and share ideas/resources as you see fit.
